Bartender’s tips and advice
- This cocktail is definitely one of the great classic cocktails and still today you should be able to order this drink in every decent bar. The recipe dates back to the 1920s and is a variant of the even older recipe for the Brandy Cocktail which dates back to the middle of the 19th century. The Sidecar is a simplified variant of that Brandy Cocktail leaving out the dashes of bitters. Those bitters were an important ingredient in many of the old-style drinks. Over the decades the taste of cocktails has generally evolved from stronger and more bitter towards sweeter with the taste of the actual spirits being less dominant.
- If possible use fresh squeezed lemon juice. There´s at least 1 oz. (= 3 cl) of juice in every lemon.
