An easy cocktail recipe for a
Piña Colada
The popular Caribbean cocktail with Coconut
Ingredients
- 3 parts rum
- 5 parts pineapple juice
- 2 parts cream of coconut
- 1 part cream
- ice cubes, crushed ice
- hurricane glass (if you don’t have one: highball glass)
How to mix a Piña Colada
For a Piña Colada cocktail fill a fancy glass or highball glass with crushed ice. Mix all ingredients with ice cubes in a shaker and strain into the glass (the ice cubes stay in the shaker). Garnish the Pina Colada drink with pineapple slice and cocktail cherry.
Bartender’s tips and advice
- The original recipe is from Puerto Rico – so think of palm trees, beaches, a cloudless sky, the sound of the waves… according to that recipe you serve the cocktails with freshly shaved ice though. So if you ever get the chance to buy an ice block, do it! Shave ice from the block (it’s a lot smoother than crushed ice), fill the glass with the ice and strain the drink into the glass to enjoy it the traditional way.
