How to mix a Cuba Libre
For a Cuba Libre cocktail cut the lime into four pieces and put them along with the ice cubes in a longdrink glass. Add rum and coke. Stir slightly.
Bartender’s tips and advice
- Some people like this cocktail even better if there´s some additional lime juice put in the glass. So try it by slightly squeezing the pieces of lime after putting them in the glass.
- The name of the recipe has nothing to do with Fidel Castro, the Cuban Revolution or the tensions during the cold war. The recipe is older and dates back to the time of the prohibition in the US. Wealthy Americans, mainly from Florida, went on short vacations to Havana, that is to the free Cuba (Cuba Libre) where alcohol was not prohibited.
