Bartender’s tips and advice
- This recipe is one of the oldest that still remains popular and that you can still order in any decent bar today. The cocktail dates back to the middle of the 19th century and is regarded as the father of a simplified variant which is sidecar cocktail (sidecar recipe »). As you can tell by comparing those two – the bitters were among the important ingredients of the cocktails of the old days. So while the brandy cocktail (mid 19th century) contains bitters the younger sidecar recipe (1920s) does not.
