The strong rum cocktail with apple and orange
- 1 part light rum
- 2 parts dark rum
- 2 parts Cointreau
- 1 part Calvados
- 1 dash Bitters (e.g. Angostura)
- ice cubes
- tumbler (old-fashioned glass)
How to mix an Atlas
For an Atlas cocktail stir the ingredients along with some ice cubes in a mixing glass. Fill a tumbler (old-fashioned glass) with ice cubes. Then strain (ice cubes used for stirring stay in the mixing glass) the drink over the ice cubes in the tumbler. Garnish the orange peel.

- Angostura Bitters used to be a medicine. Developed by German doctor Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert as a remedy against tropical diseases. He worked for the troops of Simon Bolivar en South America. Later he marketed the bitter. There’s another cocktail ingredient that has been used as a medicine before. It’s Quinine which gives Tonic Water its special taste. Quinine has been used as a remedy against malaria by the British.
