Original recipe for the Gin Fizz cocktail

GIN FIZZ & TOM COLLINS


3 parts gin
2 parts lemon juice
1 part sugar syrup
sparkling water (soda)

ice cubes

longdrink glass (Tom Collins) or tumbler (Gin Fizz)





To mix a Tom Collins put the gin, the lemon juice, the sugar syrup, and some ice cubes in a longdrink glass and stir. Fill with sparkling water and put a lemon slice and a cocktail cherry in the glass.

If you prefer the Gin Fizz mix all ingredients, except the sparkling water, with some ice cubes in a shaker. Strain into an ice-cube-filled tumbler (the ice cubes you used for mixing stay in the shaker). Fill with sparkling water and serve the drink without any garnish.




GIN SOUR


4 parts gin
3 parts lemon juice
1 part sugar syrup
sparkling water (soda)

ice cubes

tumbler





Mix gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup along with some ice cubes in a shaker. Strain into a tumbler (the ice cubes used for mixing stay in the shaker). Add a dash of sparkling water (soda) and put a slice of lemon in the glass.




Bartender's Tips and Advice

If possible use fresh squeezed lemon juice. There´s at least 1 oz. (= 3 cl) of juice in every lemon.

The sour is shaken. Only a dash of sparkling water is added and the drink is - at least according to the original recipe - served without ice. Only a slice of lemon is put in the glass.

The fizz is shaken, filled up with sparkling water and served in a tumbler with ice cubes but without decoration.

The collins is stirred, filled up with soda and served in a longdrink glass with ice cubes, a cocktail cherry and a slice of lemon.
